How was the woman shot?
Renee Nicole Good, 37, was shot and killed by an ICE agent during a confrontation on Thursday, January 8 (local time). Federal authorities allege that Good attempted to ram her vehicle into the officers.
Tensions escalated in Minneapolis on Friday as protesters gathered outside a federal building, chanting Good’s name and demanding accountability. ICE agents were seen pushing and dragging protesters, dispersing the crowd. These clashes fueled tensions in the city.
People hold signs during a protest on January 8, 2026, in Phoenix, Arizona, USA, a day after Renee Nicole Good, a Minneapolis resident, was shot and killed by a US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent.
Protesters also took to the streets in New York City, chanting “Renee Nicole Good.” The NYC protest underscored the growing outrage beyond Minnesota, as activists linked the shooting to broader concerns about immigration enforcement and police conduct.
Trump reacts to footage
Describing the graphic footage of the fatal ICE shooting in Minneapolis as “horrific to watch,” US President Donald Trump strongly defended the federal agent who shot the female protester, insisting the shooting was in self-defense.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said an ICE officer was “brutally” run over. “It’s hard to believe he’s alive, but he’s now recovering in the hospital,” he wrote.
What did Vance say?
Vance claimed he was certain that Good accelerated her car toward the officer and struck him. According to the AP report, it is unclear from the video whether the vehicle actually struck the officer.
He said the woman had been “brainwashed” and was a “victim of left-wing ideology.” Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey said on Wednesday that the video of the shooting shows that the argument that the officer was acting in self-defense is “nonsense.”
