New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) on Wednesday (October 8). The airport has been built under a public-private partnership between Adani Airport Holdings and CIDCO (Maharashtra Urban and Industrial Development Corporation Limited).

Key facts about Navi Mumbai Airport
Navi Mumbai International Airport will be India’s first fully digital airport and will include pre-booking of parking slots, online baggage drop-off, and immigration services. It will also have a fully automated, AI-enabled terminal.

Spread across 1,160 hectares, the airport will initially handle 20 million passengers annually through one runway and terminal. At full capacity, the airport will be able to handle 155 million passengers annually through four terminals and two runways.

The airport was built at a cost of ₹19,650 crore and is expected to generate over 200,000 jobs in various sectors, including aviation, logistics, IT, hospitality, and real estate.

Several airlines, including IndiGo, Air India Express, and Akasa Air, have already shared plans to launch flights and operations connecting various cities across the country.

Commercial operations will commence in December with approximately 40 percent international traffic, eventually increasing to 75 percent. Officials stated that the airport will initially operate for 12 hours a day.

Arun Bansal, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Adani Airports Holdings Limited (AAHL), described Navi Mumbai Airport as a “worry-free airport” due to its automation and digital features. He said, “We’re using AI-enabled baggage tracking in Ahmedabad, and here, you’ll receive a message on your phone, for example, telling you that your bag is number 20 on the carousel.”

Navi Mumbai Airport will be India’s first major aviation hub connected to multiple transportation systems, including expressways, metro and suburban rail networks, and waterway services.
