PresVu eye drops: According to sources, the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) granted final permission for developing Entod Pharmaceuticals’ PresVu eye drops, a major step forward in treating presbyopia, PresVu is a “revolutionary treatment for presbyopia,” according to Nikkhil K. Masurkar, the CEO of the Mumbai-based startup.
“PresVu emerges as the first-of-its-kind eye drop in India designed to eliminate the need for reading glasses among individuals aged 40 to 55 with mild to intermediate presbyopia, providing a viable alternative to traditional interventions like reading glasses,” Masurkar said in a post on LinkedIn four months ago.
In May, Masurkar stated on LinkedIn that the Subject Expert Committee (SEC) of the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) had previously authorized PresVu. “The approval comes following successful multi-centric phase 3 clinical trials carried out in India by ENTOD,” he had posted.
What is Presbyopia, and why is it called PresVu?
PresVu was created by Entod Pharmaceuticals to help people with presbyopia become less dependent on reading glasses. In India, they are the first to introduce this type of eye drop.
The progressive loss of the eye’s capacity to focus on close objects is known as presbyopia, according to the Mayo Clinic. It is a normal aspect of aging that often manifests in the early to mid-40s and gets worse until the age of 65.
CEO Masurkar has stated, “This therapy is not only approved by the US FDA but has also undergone extensive testing for safety and efficacy in Indian eyes.”
When will India be able to get PresVu eye drops?
The Mumbai-based pharmaceutical company intends to release PresVu eye drops on the domestic market within the first week of October, according to news agency PTI.
The company would prioritize satisfying demand in both established and developing regions, such as those in Africa and Southeast Asia, according to a cited statement from Masurkar. According to him, the corporation wants to invent products in India before out-licensing them into the United States market.
The New India Express and The Print stated that the company released a statement on Tuesday stating that the retail price of a single vial of PresVu eye drops is ₹345. The vial should hold for around one month.
How is PresVu used?
The Print stated that the medication’s effects can linger for several hours and that people usually only need to take it once daily. The eye drops can only be used by patients having an ophthalmologist’s prescription. Each eye should only receive one drop of the medication every day. The effects linger for almost six hours. After the first drop, three to six hours might pass before administering another drop to each eye. This may help maintain clear vision for an additional three hours. According to reports, Entod Pharmaceuticals states the medication begins to take effect within 15 minutes of administration; however, full advantages are probably not apparent for 15 days.
