Robotic Surgery Brings New Hope: Breast Cancer Patient Brings Smile Back

Compared to traditional open surgery, robotic mastectomy results in less tissue and blood loss and significantly less pain.

Navi Mumbai: A robotically assisted nipple-sparing mastectomy and immediate breast reconstruction performed on a 53-year-old breast cancer patient at Apollo Hospitals, Navi Mumbai, has opened a new direction in cancer treatment. The surgery was not only successful, but the patient returned home the next day, without any major complications.

Dr. Neeta Nair, Lead Consultant, Breast-Robotic Surgery, explained that the technique aims to completely remove the cancer while preserving the natural appearance of the breast. Removing the tumor through small incisions results in significantly lighter scars, faster recovery, and improved patient confidence.

Compared to traditional open surgery, robotic mastectomy results in less tissue and blood loss and significantly less pain. Furthermore, immediate reconstruction reduces the trauma of losing a breast. This procedure is particularly beneficial for early-stage cancer patients, where the tumor is located away from the nipple and the skin is unaffected.

This innovative technique has proven that with the right treatment and advanced technology, not only can lives be saved, but self-esteem and quality of life can also be maintained.
