Terrifying Experiences in Uber Ride, Woman Raising Questions About Safety

Uber Ride Controversy: A disturbing incident has gone viral from Delhi, where a woman named Simran Monga shared her harrowing experience of two consecutive unsafe Uber rides on the night of January 30-31, 2026.

She posted a detailed account (in a series of slides on social media, likely Instagram or X), tagging @Uber_India, accusing the platform of failing to ensure women’s safety and making her feel extremely vulnerable.

First Ride (9:00 PM)
Booked from a friend’s house to her own. The driver arrived in a “very poorly maintained car” (she noted that the poor condition of the vehicle was common but still concerning). During the ride, the driver allegedly made her feel uncomfortable with his behavior or comments – details suggest it was unwanted attention or harassment that left her shaken.

Second Ride (Immediately afterward or the same night)
Booked another Uber, where the harassment escalated. She reported feeling distressed, unsafe, and emotionally traumatized by the driver’s actions (specifics include inappropriate behavior that made her fear for her safety during the journey).

She emphasized that this was the last straw after years of not publicly complaining about bad experiences, but the two consecutive incidents forced her to speak out: “@uberindia you know how to make women feel unsafe!!!”

The post has sparked outrage online, with many questioning Uber’s driver verification, background checks, and response mechanisms for women’s safety on ride-hailing apps – especially in Delhi-NCR, where such complaints are frequent. This comes amidst several recent reports of cab-related harassment in the region:

Similar incidents have occurred with Uber, Rapido, and other apps (e.g., drivers threatening passengers, forcing them to alight midway, or engaging in physical/verbal abuse).

Previous cases (as recently as late 2025) involved physical assaults during rides, delayed responses from safety features/police, and viral social media posts, which only led to action after public pressure.

Uber has not yet issued a public statement on this specific incident (according to the latest reports), but in similar past incidents, the company has responded by investigating, suspending drivers, or offering assistance after the matter gained traction on social media.

Women’s safety in cabs remains a major issue in Delhi – activists advise sharing live location, using emergency SOS features, recording if safe to do so, and immediately reporting to the police (100/112) or the app.
