Traffic Chaos: Ahead of Diwali, cities around Delhi, including Gurugram, Noida, Ghaziabad, and Faridabad, are experiencing severe traffic jams. Google Maps is completely painted in red. It seems that the entire Delhi-NCR is out distributing gifts to their loved ones. Commuters are facing hours-long traffic jams.
Due to the festive rush, Delhi’s roads have virtually come to a standstill, causing traffic jams for hours. Google Maps is showing “red mode” in the city and surrounding areas, causing inconvenience to commuters. Heavy traffic is nothing new in Delhi, but during Diwali, congestion is not only felt throughout the city, but also in surrounding cities like Ghaziabad, Noida, Gurugram, and Faridabad.
If you’re planning a trip, check Google Maps to see where the traffic is less likely, as you’ll encounter traffic jams as soon as you get on the road. Therefore, think carefully before leaving your home.
Congestion on Main Roads
On Thursday, major roads remained heavily congested, including the Outer Ring Road, the Ring Road in South Delhi, Mathura Road between Pragati Maidan and Badarpur Border, Aurobindo Marg, the Barapullah Elevated Road, the DND Flyway, and the Delhi-Meerut Expressway to Ghaziabad.
A Flood of Posts on Social Media
The social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, was flooded with posts from frustrated commuters.
One user wrote, “There’s been a massive traffic jam on Rohtak Road near Mundka for the past hour. I couldn’t even walk 100 meters between the Mundka Industrial Area Metro Station and the Mundka Metro Station.”
X user Vivek Bansal wrote, “Tughlaq Road is completely jammed. Traffic management is a joke.” Civic spirit is nowhere to be seen.”
Another user wrote, “Delhi traffic is unbelievable—I’ve been stuck on Wazirabad Road for the last 37 minutes! I think the authorities are busier counting vehicles than clearing the jam.”

One user wrote, “I’ve never seen traffic like this in Delhi! I’ve been stuck in the same spot for over two hours, and nothing is happening. I’ve called 112 three or four times, but the calls keep dropping and no one has called back. What a mess! With the festival season approaching, this planning by the authorities is pathetic.”
Some others jokingly shared memes like, “People stuck in traffic jams during festivals in Delhi.” Some users questioned the authorities’ handling of the situation:
One user wrote, “How can there be traffic jams in all parts of Delhi during Diwali? This seems like a conspiracy to harass the residents of Delhi/NCR. What are the police and traffic police doing about this? This is absolutely ridiculous.”
Police Deploy Personnel for Traffic Management
Delhi Police said that maximum deployment has been made to control the increasing crowds across the city. Special Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Ajay Chaudhary told PTI, “Personnel on motorcycles have been deployed and holidays have been cancelled. We are fully prepared to control the crowds and ensure smooth traffic in the coming days.”
However, traffic conditions on Delhi roads appear to be very bad. Contrary to what Delhi Police officials are saying, there are traffic jams everywhere. The Delhi Traffic Police appears helpless to resolve this situation.
