Gujarat building collapse: A collapse of a multi-storey building in Gujarat on Saturday resulted in several injuries. One individual has been saved, while numerous others remain trapped beneath the rubble. The incident occurred in the Sachin area of Surat. Ongoing rescue efforts involve the cooperation of police and fire department teams.
“We were informed of the collapse of a six-storey building. Based on initial reports, individuals resided in approximately 4-5 flats. While one woman has been rescued, approximately 3-4 people are still entrapped in the debris. Both NDRF and SDRF teams are engaged in the rescue operation,” stated Surat Collector Saurabh Pardhi, as reported by news agency PTI.
As per statements from fire brigade and police officials at the scene, the structure, which was erected in 2017, crumbled due to heavy rainfall in the vicinity. Approximately 15 individuals are suspected to have sustained severe injuries in the event.
“A building in Pali village collapsed, and it was constructed in 2016-17. A woman was rescued and taken to the hospital. According to her, 2-3 people are still trapped inside. Experts are present, and we are optimistic that we will be able to rescue the remaining individuals in the next one or two hours,” stated Surat Police Commissioner Anupam Singh Gehlaut.
