Tourist and Business Visas Fully Restored
This move follows India’s decision to fully restore its visa system for Chinese tourists and business travelers. On November 26, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that visa processing is now “fully operational,” marking the end of a five-year suspension imposed following border clashes in 2020.
ANI quoted MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal as saying, “Tourist visas are being issued to Chinese citizens, and business visas were being issued earlier. So, you know, all those visas are now in effect. The visa system for tourism and business, etc., is fully operational.”
Resumption of Tourist Visas
India officially resumed issuing tourist visas to Chinese citizens worldwide in November 2025, furthering the limited reopening that began in July 2025. Business visas were already being issued before this recent announcement, and that process is still in effect.
The resumption of visas is part of a series of “people-centric” confidence-building measures agreed upon between the two sides in 2025. ANI reported that these efforts include the resumption of direct commercial flights between India and China in October 2025 and the resumption of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra.
The return of normal visa operations and the introduction of online applications is expected to boost tourism, expand business opportunities, and enhance people-to-people exchanges between the world’s two most populous countries.
