India US Trade Deal: Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, launched a scathing attack on opposition parties, particularly Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, for criticizing the India-US trade agreement, stating that the agreement is in the final stages of detailing between the negotiating teams.
Goyal made these remarks while addressing the media hours after a ruckus in the central parliament.
US President Donald Trump announced the agreement after speaking with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday night, and the mutual tariffs have been reduced from the previous 25% to 18%.
Commerce Minister Goyal said, “Indians are celebrating a trade agreement that is in the final stages of detailing between the negotiating teams of both countries. We will soon be issuing a joint statement by both countries, along with the details of the agreement that we will be signing soon between the United States and India. And as soon as the final understanding of the agreement is signed, the joint statement is finalized.”
Piyush Goyal also stated that after the technical processes are completed, the full details of the trade agreement will be shared.
The minister also said that India has secured better trade agreements compared to its competitors, and added, “India’s sensitive sectors, especially agriculture and dairy, have been fully protected.”
He said, “PM Modi has taken care of the interests of the animal husbandry, agriculture, and dairy sectors.”
Which sectors will benefit?
While addressing the media, Piyush Goyal said that through this upcoming agreement, which is in the final stages of detailing, several sectors are going to get numerous opportunities as exporters will sell their goods in the American market.
List of sectors that will benefit from the India-US trade agreement:
MSMEs
Engineering
Auto Components
Electrical Parts
Textiles
Gems and Jewellery
Leather and Footwear
Marine Products
Plastics
Apparel
Home Decor
Organic Chemicals
Dismissing all concerns in the industry, Goyal also pointed out that the trade agreement with tariff reductions was announced by the US side, as it was the Western country that had first imposed reciprocal tariffs on countries around the world, including India.
“I believe this trade deal is a milestone for India’s future,” Goyal said during the press conference.
Piyush Goyal also assured Indians that this deal with the US will make every citizen proud, while the central government will protect the interests of the people and safeguard sensitive sectors like agriculture and dairy.
